Peter Rabbit was named after a pet rabbit Beatrix Potter had as a child, she called Peter Piper. The first Peter Rabbit story, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was created in 1893 initially as a letter to Noel Moore, the five-year-old son of Beatrix Potter's former governess, Annie Moore. The boy was ill, and Beatrix Potter wrote him story letter to help cheer him up. Beatrix Potter designed the first Peter Rabbit doll in 1903. She used cotton fabric to sew him together and brush bristles for his whiskers. As Beatrix Potter continued writing, so her characters began to pop up everywhere, from board games to tea sets, figurine's and childrens dishware.
